Spring Poetry
Did you know that April is National Poetry Month? It's true, and poetry has the power to change the world. And some magical and pithy words sometimes have deeper meanings than one may realize. Love, grief, beauty, life, and even philosophy; these are all important qualities shared through poems. Perhaps you can find some beauty in these!
"Life"
You will never find anything as beautiful
As the changing seasons
The brisk and tingling whispers
Of a cool Winter's breeze
Or the budding of new life
Among the fresh green grasses
The value of a life compares to no other
When bluebird sings its melody
To signal a new day
Or when the shining sun
Radiates with the strength of morning
Everyday is filled with hope
Tiny miracles that bring us joy
The uncertainty of tomorrow
With the promised adventure of life
"Remembrance"
I dearly miss the atmosphere of the first day of school.
Of the warm late summer air, the refreshing cool breezes.
And of the leaves, still green but with the faintest streaks of gold
The promise of a honey-toned autumn
And most of all, I miss the chatter of people as they walk by
Waving goodbye to their parents, saying farewell to the last of summer break
The nostalgic, unforgettable moments
The ones I miss so much my heart breaks
"Fantasy"
Will the words be the only thing left
After the ones I love vanish
The print pages a peace offering
And a fleeting solace to the world
Sometimes home feels so desolate
Utterly alone and devoid of amity
Turning to a book to whisk me far, far away
To a place where the troubles are never my own
That's offering a delicious fantasy
Filled with an otherworldly hope
Fighting with my comrades against the wicked
And laughing with my new fictional friends
I can be anything here
Both a princess and a knave
I can be the hero or the bringer of all evil
This world is brimming with chance
But dreams will never last forever
And suddenly I'm home
With chores to do, homework to complete
Back to a place where I'm all alone
"Hadley Hemingway"
There's nothing quite like the desperation you feel
When you're trapped, all paths bluntly closed up
Two options are before you
Each as undesirable as the other
You may run and scream
But for sure they'd disregard you
Convinced you're uncontrollable
All they can do is leave without you
Or you can conform
Put on a placid mask while your heart breaks
Your soul wavers and you lose all freedom
They'll fake compassion then, but you'll still be all alone
Which do you choose?
Agonizing pain and heartbreak either way
To be sent away as insane
Or to remain forever a fraud
(Inspired by the Paris Wife)
"Fragility"
A hundred cancers to threaten your life
A million diseases proving to be a blight
Only a bruise, a scrape, then a cut before
A slip and concussion, skin cancer and more
Every speck upon a human body
Is another sign of our fragility
