NHD Competition

By: Kylie McCormick
As all eighth-graders know, National History Day or NHD was a big 100 point project that took months to create. It was the most significant grade of the year with a wide variety of topics, all connecting to the theme breaking barriers. There were different types/categories of projects a person or group could do. A single person could do a research paper, exhibit, documentary, website, and if the person was in a level 2 history class, they could have done a PowerPoint. While a group could do everything except a research paper. For example, an exhibit on Van Gogh's flying machine, a website on Ruth Bader Ginsburg, a research paper on Scott Joplin, and a documentary on Bayard Rustin were all made. Last year the highest grade ever achieved was a 98, but after this year, the new grade to beat became a 99. All of these projects weren't just for a grade. They were for the actual NHD competition in March. Only the top projects from each category could be able to enter the contest. The regional competition is on March 28th at the Historical Society of West Chester. Good luck to all of the registered groups or persons!
*The results are in 8 projects (19 students) placed in the regional competition! After competing only three have been picked to go on to national finals!
