Is A Hotdog a Sandwich

Is a hotdog a sandwich? Like other debates such as the blue/black and gold/white dress debate, this worldwide debate has facts behind it too.

The definition according to the Oxford Dictionary is "A sausage, typically a frankfurter or wienerwurst, esp. one served hot on a long, soft roll. Cf. dog." The definition of a sandwich coming from the same source is "An article of food for a light meal or snack, composed of two thin slices of bread, usually buttered, with a savory (originally spec. meat, esp…" Although the two definitions aren't the same, the concept is. You can eat both sandwiches and hotdogs at barbecues, birthday parties, or even something more simple like the kitchen/dining room. I quoted a few students from Fugett Middle School, here are their quotes;

"Ok lemme quickly give you the definition of a sandwich. Two pieces of bread with filling often meat in the middle. What is a hotdog? It's two pieces of bread with a hotdog in the middle. It's a sandwich"-Wendy

"So a hotdog is a sandwich but I know people say it's not a sandwich cause the two pieces of bread have to be separate, but that's not true its two sides of bread like a hoagie. If you say a hoagie is not a sandwich you are mentally insane."-Anonymous

"It's sealed together 'cause it's cooked together and they don't cut it all the way but then, it's like, yeah."-Anonymous

It's an even debate;consequently, we need a tie breaker. I went to another article that People News wrote, they said, and I quote, " Merriam-Webster came down definitively on the side of yes, a hot dog IS a sandwich, because "the definition of sandwich is 'two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between.'" Thus, they declared on their website, "there is no sensible way around it...a hot dog is also a kind of sandwich.'" So in conclusion, is a hotdog a sandwich? 56.8% of people believe, yes, a hotdog is a sandwich.
