Dear Autumn

11/30/2022

By Samantha Shea, Grade 6

Dear autumn breeze,

You twirl strands of my hair.

The allergies that make me sneeze,

are gone when you are here.

Dear leaves that break away,

you're an idol to us all.

Break the mold, make your say,

get back up when you fall.

Dear twisted roots and dewy grass,

you make me trip and dive.

But I'll always get back up,

and resume my happy life.

Dear starburst sunsets,

you're a glimmer of true hope.

You give my mind a reset,

and you level down life's slope.

Dear old crunchy leaves,

that rain down on my head,

you fly high and you fly low,

gliding a steady trek.

So autumn, in conclusion,

all is is well and neat,

yet I end this in confusion,

for you are an impressive feat.

How are you the perfect time of year?

A sense of calm before holiday cheer?

The crunching leaves, the steady mist,

all during winter you are missed.

Thank you, fall, for all you've done,

but winter's time has nearly come.

So finally, I say good-bye!

See you on the other side!
